Why bone is lost
Bone needs the pressure of chewing to stay strong. When a tooth is lost, the bone beneath it slowly thins. Gum disease can cause bone loss as well.
What a graft does
Grafting material is placed where bone is missing. Over the following months your own bone grows into it, creating a firm base.
